Here we go again Houston. I feel like I already wrote this post. In the middle of October God called Big Moe home. Last month was the anniversary of DJ Screw’s death. Two days ago, Chad Butler, otherwise known as Pimp C died. I was checking emails first thing in the morning like always and reading up on the latest entertainment and online marketing news when I landed on the TMZ site.pimp-c.jpg Pimp C found dead in hotel room. I was like, man hell nall, this can’t be true. Then I turned the radio on to the Madd Hatta Morning Show and Hatta was like, “Houston we have a problem. Pimp C of the great UGK was found dead”. My heart hit the floor. My inbox began piling up and I received about 100 text messages saying RIP Pimp C. I’m still shocked. I hope it was from some sort of natural causes and he didn’t get murked. I hope it wasn’t drug related either. (more…)

New music out…my thoughts

Posted: November 27, 2007 in Music

Well, since I love hip hop and try to collect the albums that are released, I figured I post my thoughts about the latest albums I’ve collected. Starting in the south, the UGK album, “Underground Kingz” was all it was hyped up to be. It is another UGK classic, although I think “SuperTight” and “Riding Dirty” was there best work. Cham’s “Ultimate Victory” is a certified jammer. He showed growth. TIP has yet to let me down. His album was throwed but “Urban Legend” is still his best work. Other than those, everyone else dropped was alright, except for Plies, his album was hard too. Trae’s album was cool, but it didn’t sound complete. (more…)

RIP DJ Screw

Today is the anniversary of Robert Earl Davis aka DJ Screw’s death. DJ Screw is a legend. He was a pioneer of a mixing style that everyone on every coast uses today. I personally began listening to Screw tapes back in the early 90’s and still “bang Screw” till this day. I was blessed to have gotten the chance to know him and kick it with him on a few occasions. He was one of the most uplifting, inspirational, God fearing, talented, supportive people I’ve ever met. (more…)

It saddens me greatly to write this post and I almost didn’t. Yesterday, Big Moe, another original SUC member passed away at the young age of 33. I was blessed to have known him and had the opportunity to kick it with him on a few occasions. Big Moe was not only a very talented individual, he was an overall great person. He had a love for singing, rapping, chilling, sipping and really just being around friends and family. He was truly a blessing to the Dirty 3rd and especially H-Town. He will be missed but never forgotten. 1 Luv….

Big MoeHis death made me focus on a hard reality. The people who created the music that I grew up listening to, Screw tapes, were quickly diminishing. It started with the very untimely death of Fat Pat and then the originator of slowed down music, DJ Screw. Fat Pat’s brother Big HAWK passed recently also. There are countless others I could mention like Mafio, Gator, Big Rue, etc…

Are mix CD’s better than radio play? This is a question I debated with a few friends of mine this past weekend. My answer is yes, especially if your independent with your own record label that produces, promotes and distributes the CD. If the CD is done right and actually has good music, it can be very lucrative. (more…)

Get Saved volume 2Get Saved volume 2I told myself, I wasn’t going to do too much album promoting on this blog, and instead use it as a tool to express myself Get Saved volume 2literally. With that being said, I had to get it out of my system before I get to deep into it. Get Saved volume 2 is my second album (3rd if you count the mix CD I released last year). (more…)
